How to Use this Blog

Some of you are familiar with blogs and some are not. I will write this page for those that need a little help understanding how to use a blog.

Blog is short for web log. Blogs are websites with frequently updated content. You may enjoy blogs like the Drudge Report, Fark, or Smoking Gun. Those blogs became so large that they quit using comment threads.

This blog pretty much exists for the purpose of using comment threads.

Comment threads are a series of user written comments attached to the a post.

You can comment here. As long as you fill in the name and email fields of the comment editor, your comment will probably make it in the thread. Your name will be published but your email will not be.

Some of you will want to do more than comment.  Fantastic!  There are other roles here that can accommodate  those desires.    Let me list all of the  roles.

  • Administrator: Absolute control of all things on the blog.
  • Editor: can publish, edit and delete any post no matter who wrote it.  Can also edit and delete comments.
  • Author:  can publish, edit and delete their own posts.
  • Contributor: Can write and edit their own posts but must have an Editor or Administrator publish them.

These roles are set up by the software but they work really well.

As you might have imagined, everybody that wants to write posts starts out as a contributor.  Some people will be promoted to Author.  Editors and Administrators will be chosen on a need basis.  So if I quit and don’t want to be an administrator any more, Tab might pick somebody else to take my place.  Or, we might become so overwhelmed that we recruit some new Editors to help out.

If you are interested in becoming a contributor, contact one of the administrators.  We can make it happen.
